An incredible site in the middle of Cathar Country
Located on the border of the Pyrénées Orientales and the department of the Aude, the Galamus Gorges form one of the most beautiful sites of the Roussillon. At 70 kilometres from Argelès sur Mer, these canyons were carved by the Agly River, a small coastal river taking its source near the Peak of Bugarach and reaching the Mediterranean Sea in Barcarès.
Because of their depths and the verticality of the rock-faces, the Galamus Gorges are a jewel of nature that will definitely stimulate curiosity. Even if the overhanging road is often clogged, it offers great views on the canyons, like the view on the hermitage Saint-Antoine de Galamus.
The Galamus Gorges are also a major place of canyoning in the region.
