A medieval city with a rich cultural heritage
The medieval city of Carcassonne, located at an hour and a half drive from Argelès sur Mer and the campsites of the Sirène Holidays group, is one of major tourist places of the Aude and more widely, of the Languedoc Roussillon.
Thanks to the double row of fortified walls, the feudal castle and its centre the city of Carcassonne is since 1997 classified on the World Heritage List of UNESCO. Each year, thousands of visitors stroll through the narrow streets and make a tour on the ramparts, beautifully restored by Eugène Violet le Duc.
In Carcassonne you will have the opportunity to visit the Cathar Inquisition Museum, to assist to wonderful celebrations and medieval reconstitutions and, in the evening of the 14th of July , to see one of the most beautiful fireworks of France...
